PM calls on Vietnam Red Cross Society to enhance capacity building

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called on the Vietnam Red Cross Society to enhance the capacity of its cadres, who he said should be dedicated and empathetic to those in need and capable of effectively organizing humanitarian activities.

Mr. Phuc was speaking at the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in Hanoi on Wednesday:“The Society needs to consolidate and develop its organization, particularly at grassroots level, and uphold its coordination role to make humanitarian activities transparent, fair, and successful. The Society’s operation should be reformed toward being closer to the people and providing aid packages to the right people, in line with the motto “each organization and individual has at least one humanitarian goal to achieve.”

Mr. Phuc said a Prime Minister decree on Red Cross work will be issued. He called the Vietnam Red Cross Society to increase international cooperation in accordance with principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, volunteerism, and unity. He also called for efforts to mobilize foreign resources for Vietnam’s humanitarian activities.
