Chairing the 25th meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, in Hanoi on Tuesday, which was connected online to 21 coastal provinces and cities, the Prime Minister said that over the past two months, the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, and coastal localities have taken strong, coordinated, and urgent actions during the peak month of IUU prevention. Their goal, he emphasized, is clear that resolutely combating IUU fishing aim to have the European Commission’s yellow card removed from Vietnam’s fisheries sector by 2025.
The Prime Minister requested all agencies to prioritize completing the EC-recommended report and to set the target of removing the IUU yellow card by the end of 2025. More importantly, he underscored that sustainable development of Vietnam’s fisheries must remain the central goal while ensuring responsible fishing practices, traceability, and the protection of marine resources.
“All efforts are for the honor of the nation and for the livelihoods of our people,” said the PM.
