PM wants greater decentralization, delegation of power coupled with appropriate resource allocation

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday urged stronger decentralization and delegation of power between central government agencies and local authorities as Vietnam accelerates the restructuring of administrative units.

He was speaking while chairing a Government meeting on the reorganization and restructuring of administrative units at all levels and the development of a two-tier local government model. 

The restructuring process must not disrupt the workflow, especially work related to the people, the PM stressed. “Ministries, provinces, and communes must be in charge of matters under their designated authority.”

He underlined the importance of resources, saying decentralization and delegation of power must go hand in hand with the allocation of resources and the improvement of lower-level implementation capacity. “At the same time, supervision and inspection must be strengthened.”
