Policies on poverty reduction for ethnic minorities reviewed

(VOVworld) – A seminar on reviewing policies on poverty reduction for ethnic minority people was held on Tuesday in Lang Son province. Delegates hailed achievements in ethnic affairs over the past 5 years with significant progress seen in awareness of ethnic affairs from the central to grassroots levels. New policies have proved to be effective in mountainous ethnic minority areas. The poverty rate in such areas has dropped significantly, while the security and defense of the localities have been ensured.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Ethnicity Council Danh Ut called for more solutions to mobilize and fully tap capital resources distributed to ethnic minority and mountainous areas to better implement the Millennium Development Goals involving ethnic people. Ministries and sectors are urged to continue working on more preferential policies to help ethnic people escape poverty, and to fulfill targets set for 2 national programs on sustainable poverty reduction and new rural development.
