(VOVworld) - Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Dinh The Huynh met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on October 27.

At the meeting, Mr. Huynh said UN initiatives, including the post 2015-Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, reflect the UN’s role in addressing global challenges. Huynh praised the UN’s support for Vietnam’s national development and said Vietnam hopes to continue to receive UN support to maintain its MDG achievements and successfully implement Agenda 2030 on sustainable development and response to climate change. Mr. Huynh said Vietnam values the UN’s contributions to security in Asia-Pacific.

Ban Ki-moon said he hopes Vietnam will increase its cooperation with the UN, especially in peacekeeping and realizing other initiatives and programs. The UN will give continued support to Vietnam in maintaining its MDG achievements and realizing Agenda 2030. Mr. Ban said he hopes relevant parties will engage in dialogue to address disputes peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. He pledged support for countries and regions to maintain peace, stability, and cooperation.

The same day, Huynh met with Chairman of the US Communist Party John Bachtell and Americans who assisted Vietnam during its struggle for national liberation and its fight for justice for Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims.
