Political trust paves way for Vietnam’s cooperation with Russia, Belarus

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on Sunday concluded her week-long official visits to Russia and Belarus.

Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for External Relations Nguyen Van Giau said the Russia’s visit was important to the relationship between Vietnam and Russia who have had long-term, traditional friendship. Both countries have cooperated extensively in all fields: economics, culture, education, science-technology, and defense-security. Mr Giau said: “In 2020 both countries will celebrate major events. Russia will mark the 75th anniversary of the Victory over Fascism. Vietnam will mark the 45th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification as well as the 75th anniversary of national independence. Leaders of both countries wanted substantial activities to mark these occasions because these will be an opportunity for them to educate the younger generation about this close bond.”

During her visit to Russia, on a rare occasion, Chairwoman Ngan delivered a speech at a plenum of the Federation Council of Russia (Senate). During talks with Chairwoman of the Council Valentina Matviyenko and Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, Ms. Ngan’s proposals on further economic cooperation and the signing of cooperative agreements between the two countries’ parliamentary groups were agreed upon and supported.

During Chairwoman Ngan’s visit to Belarus from Thursday, both sides agreed to boost economic and trade ties, especially agricultural products and tourism, and seeking advantages of the Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement. Mr. Giau said: “At high-level meetings and talks, the Belarusian side spoke highly of the visit by the Vietnamese top legislator to create big momentum for bilateral ties.”
