Preparations for VFF’s National Congress continue

(VOVworld) -  A delegation of the 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front paid tribute on Thursday to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and burned incense at the Martyrs Memorial in Hanoi.

A preparatory conference was convened the same day to discuss the nomination of the Presidium and Secretariat for the event, approve regulations, and reach consensus on the congress’ agenda. Delegates also reviewed activities of the Front’s Central Committee.

The 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will officially open on Friday, attended by 1,000 delegates. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong will deliver a key speech at the opening ceremony.

Entitled ‘Unity, democracy, renovation, and development’, the conference is a political forum for the Party, army, and the people during national industrialization, modernization, and international integration.

During the 3-day meeting, the congress will revise the Front’s charter and issue a declaration calling on people from all walks of life to unite in national construction and defense during the new period. Participants will discuss the expansion of the number of members of the Front’s Central Committee. VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan says: “The Front’s Central Committee will now have 385 members, an increase of 30 people. The new members will represent workers, farmers, scientists, and people living in sea and islands areas, with the particular participation of the Chairman of Truong Sa district’s Fatherland Front. This is the first time we will have members representing small businesses. The number of non-Party members remains half of the total.
