On this occasion, Vietnamese ambassador to Tehran Nguyen Hong Thach granted an interview to the Tehran Times on the prospects of Vietnam-Iran cooperation.

Thach said the nuclear deal or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a great breakthrough for the Iranian diplomacy, which will leave a positive influence on bilateral ties between Iran and Vietnam because before the removal of sanctions it was difficult for other countries, including Vietnam, to do business with Iran.

Thach said Vietnam and Iran should push trade and tourism forwards. He said during President Truong Tan Sang’s upcoming visit, both countries will discuss the establishment of a joint venture in Vietnam between the Iranian Ghadir Investment Group and the Vietnamese Petrovietnam to produce petrochemicals fed by petroleum imports from Iran. It will be a good opportunity for Iran because if Iran produces petrochemicals in Vietnam, it can export them through Vietnam to Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) countries, including the US, Canada, Japan, and the Republic of Korea with very low tariff levels.

Thach said the State Bank of Vietnam and the Central Bank of Iran will sign an MoU to expand bilateral banking cooperation and facilitate financial transactions.
