(VOVWORLD) - The 16th National Press Awards 2021 were presented at a ceremony in Hanoi on June 21, the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Organizers said entries covered key events taking place in Vietnam, including the 13th National Party Congress; the efforts of the Party, State, people and businesses to resolve problems and boost production and trade to sustain economic growth; pandemic prevention and control; criticizing wrongful hostile viewpoint; the defense of national sovereignty over sea and islands; the great national solidarity; digital transformation; social security; and sustainable poverty reduction.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that over the past 97 years, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has grown and contributed greatly to the struggle for national independence and the cause of national construction and defence.

Mr. Chinh warmly congratulated the 115 authors and groups of authors who won prizes this time, adding, “This is a great honor for the awardees, their agencies, and their families. The awards honour and express thanks to journalists who contributed to Vietnam’s success in 2021, a year with unprecedented difficulties and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The press have built trust and helped consolidate the great solidarity, consensus, and support  of the people and businesses for the Party and State’s sound policies on a vaccine strategy  and COVID-19 prevention and control program, which enabled Vietnam to achieve one of the best vaccination rates in the world,” said the PM.

Mr. Chinh asked the press to focus on economic recovery policies, digital transformation, environmental protection, and social security in the coming months.

This year the National Press Awards presented 10 A prizes, 22 B prizes, 48 C prizes, and 35 consolation prizes.

Five of VOV’s 7 finalists were honored at the ceremony, with two winning A prizes, 2 B prizes, and a C prize.
