(VOVWORLD) - North Korea fired two unidentified projectiles toward the Sea of Japan on Wednesday. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that North Korea might have fired two ballistic missiles across its east coast. South Korea and the US are analyzing the situation to determine the missiles’ launch site and range.

The latest launch took place a few days after North Korea announced a successful test of a long range cruise missile last week, which it called a strategic weapon of great significance. Experts said the missile might be North Korea’s first nuclear warhead weapon.

Hours after the launch, South Korean Presidential Office convened a National Security Council meeting. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff press release said South Korea’s military is maintaining combat readiness and close cooperation with the US.

The US military's Indo-Pacific Command said North Korea's missile launches did not pose an immediate threat to US and its allies.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga called the missile launch "outrageous" and strongly condemned it as a threat to peace and security in the region.
