Rules-based solutions needed to settle disputes in East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - A round-table workshop was held in Ukraine on Friday to discuss jurisdiction at sea in disputed in the Black Sea, Azov Sea, and South China Sea, also called East Sea in Vietnam.

At the event , some 20 Ukrainian scientists, experts, and lawyers agreed that conflicts in the areas affect regional and international stability, security, and navigation freedom. Associate Professor Viktor Konstantinov of the International Relations Institute of the National University of Kiev called on nations to respect and abide by international law. He added that countries’ stances have not changed despite the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016 over the Phillipines’ lawsuit .

He said Vietnam has pursued a consistent view on territorial disputes of being persistent and refraint and avoiding actions that may complicate the situation adding that Vietnam always wants to settle disputes in the East Sea through political and diplomatic measures which are in compliance with international law.
