The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the 29 journalists blacklisted “are involved in the deliberate dissemination of false and one-sided information" about Russia and the events in Ukraine and Donbas. The journalists represent major outlets, including the BBC, Sky News, the Financial Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Independent, and the Guardian. The list includes news anchors, editors, and senior managers.

20 British military officials who Moscow says are linked to the defense industry were also banned from entering Russia because they are “involved in making decisions on the supply of weapons to Ukraine.” The Russian Foreign Ministry said the list of sanctioned against British citizens will be expanded in the near future.

On April 16, Russia imposed sanctions on members of the British Government, including the Prime Minister, and the Defense Minister. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, expanding the list of sanctioned British individuals was a response to the British Government's imposition of sanctions on Russian individuals and legal entities.
