Russia’s federation security council says the US is trying to destabilise and isolate Russia.

In a statement released Thursday, the council said Western powers are trying to create an anti-Russia sentiment in nations which used to have partnerships with Russia and to diminish Russia’s influence in former Soviet states. The council also condemns US attempts to conduct a political change in Russia using the same tactics of mass demonstrations that the West toppled former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has asked NATO to suspend its unilateral plans to establish a missile defence system in Europe.
In early February, US President Barack Obama announced a new US national security strategy which lists Russia as one of the most pressing threats to Ukraine.
