Russia rejects UN request to extend Aleppo ceasefire

(VOVworld) – Russia has rejected a UN request to extend the Aleppo ceasefire, saying its aim was to support civilians, not to allow the terrorists to regain strength. Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov noted that a conciliation center coordinated by Russia has delivered over 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Aleppo in recent months irrespective of any ceasefire.

The UN on Thursday announced that the last remaining food rations were currently being sent to eastern Aleppo, and there would be nothing left to distribute next week without a resupply, according to Jan Egeland, head of the UN-backed humanitarian task force for Syria. Egeland said the coming winter will be "a real killer" and said the UN urgently needs a guarantee from the Syrian and Russian governments, and all rebel groups for its eastern Aleppo relief plan.
