Russian President optimistic about world economy after pandemic

(VOVWORLD) - The global economy is recovering after the pandemic, Russian President Vladimir Putin said when opening the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

Putin said this year global GDP will likely be highest since 1970s, though the recovery is uneven globally.

President Putin said due to the epidemic, Russia has seen an increasing unemployment rate and decreasing people’s income, but there has been no crisis and the Russian economy is returning to normal. He announced the completion of work on the first line of the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany and work on the second line is ongoing.
