64 people have died of bird flu since the first infection was discovered in Egypt in 2006

(VOVworld) – An Egyptian woman died on Monday of H5N1 bird flu, after coming into contact with infected birds, the second death from the disease this year, said a health ministry spokesman. The 19-year-old woman died in hospital in the region of Assiut, southern Egypt. Her two-year-old daughter is now infected with the H5N1 virus. 64 people have died of bird flu since the first infection was discovered in Egypt in 2006. Official statistics show that some 2 million people are working in Egypt’s poultry-breeding industry.
