The final decision was announced during a virtual meeting held on Tuesday by the AFF.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the regulations for the 2020 AFF Cup were forced to change. In contrast to the 2018 version when games took place in all participating ASEAN countries, the 2020 tournament will see teams play in a single host country.

Of the five nations to put themselves forward as hosts, Singapore and Thailand have successfully met six criteria set out by the AFF, but Singapore eventually won the vote.

The 2020 AFF Cup is set to get underway in December this year after being postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam, the 2018 AFF Cup champions, have been drawn in Group B alongside Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos.

Group A includes Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and winner of the play-off match between Brunei and Timor Leste.
