The impeachment of the South Korean president requires 200 of 300 votes by lawmakers. The opposition consists of 172 lawmakers, which means that the votes of at least 28 members of the Saenuri party are needed.
If the impeachment resolution is adopted, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo Ahn will replace Mrs. Park as President. Opposition parties submitted a draft resolution on the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye over charges of violating the Constitution and laws when she allowed her close friend Choi Soon-sil to become involved in state affairs and money misappropriations from non-profit foundations.
