Organizers, including the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), said that 4 winning teams will be qualified for the 2018 Asia Futsal Championship and that this tournament is the preparation for the 2019 World Futsal Championship. 

The ASEAN HDBank Futsal Championship has 9 teams competing in 2 groups. Vietnam is in group A with the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Myanmar. Group B comprises of Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, and Timor Leste. 2 leading teams of each group will advance to the next rounds. After the opening ceremony, Vietnam had its first win 24-0 against the Philippines.
