(VOVworld) - A sports exchange programme entitled “Vietnam-ASEAN and partners” was held in Hanoi on August 5 to celebrate ASEAN’s 45th anniversary and 17 years since Vietnam’s membership. The event drew the participation of 200 staff from embassies and ministries along with athletes competing in football, table-tennis, tennis and badminton. Vu Hong Nam is Head of the ASEAN Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Only 2 years are left before an ASEAN community by 2015. So building is a community spirit is very important. First, this program helps build an ASEAN community spirit. Second, this is a very important milestone in ASEAN’s history. The past 45 years have reflected the history of ASEAN development. Third, the program helps educate younger generations in the group.”

ASEAN is determined to build an ASEAN community by 2015 based on the three pillars including the ASEAN Political-Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
