State President calls for more support for elderly women in adapting to new era of development

(VOVWORLD) - The Party and State give high priority to care for the elderly in general, and elderly women in particular, who play a crucial role in ensuring social welfare and national development, said President Luong Cuong at Friday’s conference to honor elderly women who have made outstanding contributions to building prosperous and happy families.

President Cuong spoke highly of the contributions of Vietnamese women throughout the country’s history, adding that in times of national renewal, development, and defense, Vietnamese women’s achievements in various fields have brought honor to the homeland.

He called on the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, the Vietnam Women’s Union, local governments, sectors, and associations at different levels to effectively ensure care and protection, as well as the legitimate rights and interests of elderly women, with emphasis on healthcare, mental health support, and social welfare to improve their basic living conditions, especially of those in remote, disadvantaged areas, or those without support. 

He said that more efforts should be made to care for the elderly in general and elderly women in particular, leverage their life experiences so they can actively contribute their ideas to further refining the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on laws related to the elderly.

This includes developing and implementing the “National Strategy for the Elderly”, and initiatives to promote startups, job creation, digital transformation, and green transition among the elderly, as well as the humanitarian program “Bright Eyes for the Elderly” and especially, the “Silver Economic Forum” with a focus on helping elderly women adapt to the rapid aging of the population, said the President.
