State-funded film “Dao, Pho and Piano” to vie for Oscar award

(VOVWORLD) -The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has selected the film “Dao, Pho and Piano” (Peach Blossom, Pho and Piano) as its official nomination to compete in the best international feature film category at the 97th Academy Awards (Oscar).

"Dao, Pho and Piano” was a new box-office hit during Lunar New Year 2024 inspired by the 60-night-long battle of the Hanoi army and people in late 1946 and early 1947.

The film tells the story of the romantic love between militiaman Van Dan (played by Doan Quoc Dam) and young Hanoiian Thuc Huong (played by Cao Thuy Linh). They braved dangers to reunite on February 17, 1947, when the Vietnamese people's army began withdrawal from Hanoi to the military zone for the protracted resistance war.

Directed by Phi Tien Son, the film was produced by the Film No. 1 Joint Stock Company at a cost of 20 billion VND (815,000 USD).

The film won the Silver Lotus Award at the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival held in Lam Dong province in November 2023.
