Syrian groups sit down for Geneva II conference

(VOVworld) - The second round of the Syrian peace conference, known as the Geneva II conference, began on Monday. The first round concluded in late January with no concrete results.

According to UN sources, the latest round began with a meeting between UN-Arab League joint envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and the Syrian opposition, followed by talks between Brahimi and Syrian government representatives. Reuters quoted Brahimi as saying to both the opposition and the Syrian government that this conference will resolve key problems in Syria including ending violence, establishing a transitional government, and making a national reconciliation plan. This round is expected to continue for a week.
