Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in the final day of the Q and A session reviewed socio-economic indicators, including an inflation rate of about 6.3% projected for the whole year and an import surplus of 290 million dollars, representing 0.24% of export revenue. He said the government next year will focus on inflation control, settlement of non-performing loans and promote efficient use of government bonds while improving access to basic services. The Prime Minister said that public debt is still below safe limit: “Budget deficit will rise from 4.8% to 5.3% of the GDP and 170 trillion VND of bond will be issued. We expect to reach our target of 7 % of inflation and maintaining macro economic stability next year.”

The Prime Minister hailed Vietnam’s major potential in hydro-power and it should be exploited for economic growth while respecting the environment and safety regulations: “We have to carry a thorough review of existing hydro power plants and reservoirs. Their operation has to be publicized and local government must hold investors responsible for any infringement of operation rules. Poor households in affected areas have to be assisted and investors have to fulfill afforestation commitments on the ground.”

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that the Q and A session has been constructive and straightforward: “The government and ministers will continue their implementation of previous National Assembly resolutions. The National Assembly Standing Committee will prepare a resolution on questions and answers in the upcoming session.”

Deputies on Friday will approve amendments to the Law on Fire Prevention and Control.
