Top ABU 2021 awards given to VOV journalists

(VOVWORLD) - VOV won two highest awards at the 57th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Awards which was held online on Wednesday.

This year’s ABU Awards honored 17 outstanding radio and television works selected from 300 entries across253 international radio,television stations, and media groups.

A story called “Water for life” by Journalist Hoang An, employed by the VOV1 radio channel, won an ABU News Reporting Award. An ABU Radio Special Jury Prize was given to “Never give in” a story by Kieu Thanh Phuong, a journalist of VOV2 radio channel.

VOV Vice President Ngo Minh Hien spoke at the award ceremony in Hanoi: “The two awards are of significant meaning for VOV. They acknowledged the contribution of VOV’s journalists and editors to improving programs that serve the public. VOV has consistently won ABU awards which require a high standard for professionalism, innovative ideas, and production. The awards are greatly encouraging for VOV’s journalists to further promote their creativity in radio and television programs to meet public expectation.”

The story “Never give in” talks about depression in modern society and the lives of depressed people. To make this story, she approached many people with depression, helped by joining social networks with more than 30,000 people with depression.

Journalist Hoang An, the author of “Water for life”, said that he used to work in the environmental sector. He knows that Vietnam will run short of water, because Vietnam is not a country with abundant water resources. He decided to make a report on the water situation in Dien Bien province.
