Top legislators of Vietnam, Cuba engage in joint activities in Santiago de Cuba

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández laid flowers at the tombs of Cuban national hero José Martí, leader Fidel Castro Ruz, Father of the Nation Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and “the mother of Cuba” Maria Grajales de Maceo at Santa Ifigennia Cemetery on Saturday (Cuba time).

The same day, Mr. Hue received Party Secretary of Santiago de Cuba, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz, and Governor Beatriz Jhonson Urrutia. At the meetings, the Vietnamese top legislator said his visit to Cuba which is coincided with the two countries' celebration of major events demonstrates that Vietnam always remembers the special solidarity and valuable support that Cuba provided Vietnam during its most difficult years.

He expressed his hope that the two countries would further strengthen bilateral cooperation, diversify cooperation areas and channels, and promote people-to-people exchanges and collaboration between localities.
He reaffirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly and government would create favorable conditions for cooperation between localities, particularly in education, health care, tourism, services, food production, and renewable energy. 

The leaders of Santiago de Cuba briefed the guests on local potential and expressed their hope to welcome more Vietnamese investors.

Also on Saturday, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández visited the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship School in Santiago de Cuba, where they talked to and encouraged children with disabilities being taken care at the school, their teachers and nurses. The Vietnamese NA leader presented the school with 10 computer sets, five tablets, a TV and toys made by Vietnamese children with disabilities.

The same day, the top legislators of the two countries attended an art program celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Solidarity Committee with South Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of leader Fidel Castro's visit to Vietnam and Quang Tri province. 

In his address, NA Vice Chairman, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong said Vietnam will do its utmost to foster the special ties between Vietnam and Cuba.

To mark the occasion, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue presented the Order of the Vietnamese State to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association in recognition of organizations' and individuals' outstanding contributions to the Vietnam-Cuba friendship.
