At a ceremony to celebrate 20 years of UNESCO’s recognition, the PM said the two heritage sites, along with the world biosphere reserve in the Cham Islands, are typical samples of heritage preservation and biodiversity conservation in Vietnam.

“All heritage sites must protect the environment, including managing plastic waste. Heritage sites, including Hoi An and My Son, need to attract domestic and foreign investors for sustainable tourism development. Preserving and promoting Vietnam’s cultural heritage is a key political mission,” said Mr. Phuc.

Hoi An is recognized as an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Southeast Asia trading port from the 15th century with buildings and streets that blend indigenous and foreign influences.

My Son is a cluster of Hindu temples constructed between the 4th and 14th centuries.
