UK government will not give up independence to EU, UK cabinet agrees

(VOVWORLD) - UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's ministers agreed on Thursday that Britain will not give up its rights by bending to the demands of the EU in its talks on their future relationship.

At a cabinet meeting, negotiator David Frost told the ministers that Britain is not asking for anything special in the talks, just a free-trade agreement.

The cabinet agreed that the UK should not agree to demands to give up its rights as an independent state.

The EU has shown through its agreements with countries like Canada that such demands are not necessary, a spokesman told reporters.
