UN leader praises Vietnam's contributions to peacekeeping operation
(VOVWORLD) - Peacekeeping constitutes a cornerstone of the partnership between the United Nations and Vietnam, UN Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare said at a ceremony in New York on Monday to mark the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of All-people Defense Festival (December 22).

The event was held by the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN and the Vietnam Military Attaché Office at the UN. The UN deputy chief highlighted the significant contributions of Vietnamese personnel, particularly the level-2 field hospitals and engineering units deployed in African missions.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of Vietnam’s UN delegation, reiterated Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, international integration, and engagement in bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation mechanisms, aimed at fostering strategic trust and contributing to global peace, security, and development.

Ambassador Giang said Vietnam is proud of its active participation in UN peacekeeping missions. Over the past decade, the country has deployed more than 800 officers and soldiers to various UN missions and headquarters. Vietnamese peacekeepers have been praised for their professionalism and dedication and have contributed to enhancing the image of Vietnam's people and armed forces.
On this occasion, UN Deputy Secretary-General Khare expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national liberation and international peace and security. Special tribute was paid to Lieutenant Colonel Do Anh, who lost his life while serving in the Central African Republic Mission.
