The permanent Vietnamese representative to the UN has underlined the country’s consistent policy on human rights at a UN consultation for States to strengthen the treaty held in New York yesterday. Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, who chaired the first discussion at the meeting, said that for Vietnam, ensuring human rights is the country’s priority and can be seen in the law as well as the country’s implementation mechanisms. Vietnam is a member of almost every convention on human rights. These include civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, as well as children’s and women’s. He described it as a basis for the country to create laws and mechanisms to implement them with the help of the State, the people and social organizations. The Ambassador stressed Vietnam’s participation in the consultation shows the country’s policy of securing human rights and its commitment to implementing its international duties while contributing to international cooperation on human rights.
