(VOVworld) - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned Israel's decision to build a new settlement on lands of the Palestinians.

Israel's security cabinet approved the construction of the first new settlement in the occupied West Bank in two decades on Thursday, even as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu negotiates with Washington on a possible curb of settlement activity.

Sweden's UN Ambassador Olof Skoog, a member of the Security Council urged the 15-member Security Council to respond to Israel’s latest settlement plan.

Israel plans to build a new settlement, intended for some 40 Jewish settlements evicted from Amona, a West Bank outpost razed in February because it was built on private Palestinian land.
