Speaking prior to the visit, he expressed his deep concern over the widespread violence in the Central African Republic. Ban is scheduled to meet Head of State of the Transition, President Catherine Samba-Panza, to discuss measures to stop bloody violence among ethnic groups over the past year.

The UN plans to deploy 12,000 soldiers and police to the Central African Republic from now until September along side with the African Union and French forces, known as MISCA and Sangaris. Speaking at the EU-AU summit, Ban urged countries to send additional troops and finance to the EU forces in this country.
