UN Security Council finds no measure to end carnage in Aleppo

(VOVworld) – “Aleppo should represent the end of the quest for military victory, not the start of a broader military campaign in a country already ravaged beyond all recognition by five years of war”, according to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's appeal to the Security Council on the situation in Aleppo, Syria.

During his speech, Ban called on all 15 member nations to do everything necessary to stop the carnage and work together to seek wholly political measures for solving the current situation. He also called on the Syrian, Russian and Iranian authorities to urgently allow the remaining civilians to escape Aleppo and facilitate access for all humanitarian assistance.
According to local sources, the Syrian military controls 99% of Aleppo previously held by the opposition groups in Aleppo’s eastern region, and will continue its assault campaign until it has completely taken control of the entire city.
