UNCLOS - viable tool to address maritime issues

(VOVWORLD) - Diplomatic representatives from the EU, Canada, Germany, Japan, and Vietnam have agreed that international law, especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS, is the only viable framework for resolving maritime disputes.

At the 17th International Conference on the East Sea in Da Nang on Tuesday, they reaffirmed that maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea is a shared responsibility of the international community.

They shared diverse perspectives on regional developments and exploring new ideas for maintaining peace and order in the East Sea.

Scholars also emphasized ASEAN’s centrality and called for greater unity, transparency, dialogue, and information-sharing to build trust and establish early warning mechanisms to prevent conflicts.
