UNESCO leaders commend Vietnam’s successful term

(VOVWORLD) - The UNESCO Executive Board is holding its 222nd session from October 6-16 in Paris with the participation of 57 member states and over 100 observer countries.

The session will nominate key leadership positions of UNESCO, including the Director-General for the 2025-2029 term and the President of the 43rd General Conference.

Leading the Vietnamese delegation, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van met with the current and incoming UNESCO leaders, including incumbent Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Director-General designate Khaled El-Enany (to be officially appointed at the 43rd General Conference in November 2025), Deputy Director-General Xing Qu, and heads of other UNESCO agencies and national delegations.

During the meetings, the UNESCO leaders and heads of national delegations hailed Vietnam as a reliable and strategic partner of UNESCO and Vietnam’s outstanding performance as a member of the Executive Board for the 2021–2025 term and responsible and effective contributor to UNESCO’s core governance mechanisms.

They also expressed their hope that Vietnam will continue sharing its experiences in cultural and educational policies and in harmonizing heritage conservation with sustainable development.

Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van met with Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the World Heritage Centre, and Marie-Laure Lavenir, Director-General of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), to discuss cooperation in preserving and promoting the values of Vietnam’s world heritage sites.
