United Nations General Assembly adopts first Vietnam-initiated resolution

(VOVWORLD) - The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution drafted by Vietnam to declare December 27 International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.

It is the first epidemic resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, and also the first resolution proposed by Vietnam.
The initiative calls on all UN member states and organisations, other global, regional and sub-regional organisations, and the private sector and civil society, including non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions to observe an International Day of Epidemic Preparedness annually in order to raise awareness on epidemic prevention and increase cooperation at all levels.
Vietnam chose the birthday of Louis Pasteur, the French biologist, microbiologist, and chemist, and one of the most principal founders of medical microbiology.
