UNSC calls for compliance with Minsk agreement

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council on Wednesday issued a statement condemning continuous violations of the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, especially the use of heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements.

The Security Council recalls its full support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, underlines the need for strict compliance with resolution 2202 (2015), and encourages all parties to recommit to the peace process and to implement all measures agreed in the Normandy format and the Trilateral Contact Group in order to achieve immediate progress." This is the first statement from the UNSC Chairman since conflicts flared up in Donbass, eastern Ukraine.
