(VOVworld) - US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power has traveled to Japan and South Korea for talks with the two US allies, as negotiations on new sanctions against North Korea are being conducted at the United Nations.

According to the American UN delegation, Power will discuss ongoing efforts to respond effectively to the serious threats to security and stability in the region posed by North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. The US is leading negotiations on a new sanctions resolution that the Security Council agreed last month to pursue after Pyongyang carried out its fifth nuclear test on September 9^th.

The same day, North Korea said through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that it is capable of carrying out nuclear attacks after South Korea and the European Union agreed to utilize all means to end North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
