The New York Times run an editorial welcoming the milestone, calling it “a historic change.” The article indicated that US Congress would finally approve the lifting of its trade embargo on Cuba.

The Mexican newspaper La Jornada commented on the event with an article “The first step towards the end of embargo on Cuba,” while the El Universal newspaper headlined an article “Cold War ends, embargo persists.”
In an article in Diario Uno, Peruvian writer Cesar Levano said that not only Cuba, but the whole of Latin America celebrated the reopening of the embassies, while La República said that for the Cuban people, it was a real victory.
