US, North Korea officials to meet in Asia ahead of summit

(VOVWORLD) - The United States and North Korea will meet this month in an unidentified Asian country ahead of their leaders’ planned second summit in Vietnam in late February.

South Korean spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said the US and North Korea have agreed to continue expert-level talks next week in a third country to clarify North Korea's denuclearization steps and corresponding steps by the US. Analysts say North Korea may propose to dismantle its Yongbyun nuclear facility and allow the international community to inspect and eliminate its intercontinental ballistic missiles. The US might propose opening a liaison office, resuming humanitarian aid, and declaring an end to the Korean War.
