US renewed sanctions against Iran take effect

(VOVWORLD) - The first round of renewed US sanctions on Iran has taken effect, prohibiting Iran's purchase of US dollars and precious metals, aluminum, steel, coal and software.

A second tranche of US sanctions on Iran, set to come into effect in November, targets Iran's energy sector and petroleum-related transactions, and transactions with the Central Bank of Iran.

Farhan Haq, a UN spokesperson, said on Monday that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres continues to view the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed between Iran and the P5+1, as a diplomatic achievement and encourages support from all governments.
