US Senate confirms Howard Lutnick as commerce secretary
(VOVWORLD) - The US Senate voted 51-45 on Tuesday to confirm US President Donald Trump's nominee Howard Lutnick, the billionaire chairman and CEO of Wall Street firm Cantor Fitzgerald, to run the Commerce Department.

This department promotes US business interests and oversees regulations restricting the export of sensitive technologies, including semiconductors. These are key priorities of the "America First Trade Policy”, which aims to bolster US manufacturing and use tariffs to protect domestic industries, particularly in the technology sector.
Lutnick will play a key role in US trade negotiations, particularly as the Trump administration considers imposing tariffs on several countries.
