(VOVworld) US Secretary of State John Kerry said at a news conference on Tuesday that he supports the resumption of East Sea talks between China and the Philippines, following the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling earlier this month.

His comments came during the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting and related meetings taking place in Laos. Kerry said he will visit the Philippines and meet with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday to encourage Duterte to negotiate with China, adding that US will uphold the international law. Kerry said the international community, including the US, will continue to support the PCA’s verdict despite China’s rejection.
