US, UK discuss possible free trade agreement

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump was welcomed to the UK on Monday with state rituals for his ongoing three-day visit.

President Trump was accompanied by Prince Charles, the heir apparent to the British throne, to an exhibit of the Royal Collection, the world’s largest private collection of royal art. The same day, Queen Elizabeth II hosted a state banquet at Buckingham Palace for the President and his entourage.

Mr. Trump and Prime Minister Theresa May held talks on Tuesday on their close alliance and trade ties, notably a possible free trade agreement once the UK leaves the EU. The two leaders also discussed the US’s proposal that British companies halt their cooperation with China’s electronic company Huawei. Washington has warned that the US may limit intelligence sharing with the UK if it allows Huawei to build part of its 5G high-speed mobile network.

Following his UK trip, President Trump will travel to France for the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the day in 1945 that that allied forces launched a combined naval, air, and land assault on Germany-held territory in the west of France.
