(VOVworld)- The 8th Vietnam-US Dialogues on Politics, Security and National Defense took place in Washington DC on Wednesday.  The Vietnamese delegation is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc and the US delegation by Tina Kaidanow, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs. The two sides agreed to work closely to implement agreements signed during President Barack Obama’s recent visit to Vietnam to boost the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership. They discussed ways to further bilateral ties. Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc asked the US to help Vietnam to search for missing in action soldiers, demining, decontaminating Agent Orange/Dioxin hot spots, and supporting AO victims. The Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs said the US considered cooperation in addressing the war aftermath a priority and would continue to help Vietnam in this regard. She said both countries have great potential for bilateral cooperation in other areas including humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, search and rescue, and maritime security.

The two sides discussed regional politics, security, traditional and non-traditional security challenges, terrorism, human trafficking, cyber security, drug trafficking and the cross-border wildlife trade. They stressed the importance of peaceful means, and international law including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in maintaining peace, security, and stability and settling disputes in the East Sea.
