At the meeting, OVs expressed their hope that authorized agencies will ease traffic congestion and deal with environmental pollution.

They also called for more attention to education development for Vietnamese abroad, especially in the areas where many overseas Vietnamese live.

Vu Hong Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, said: “The community of Vietnamese abroad includes academics, with many talents in the sciences. Each year about 400 people return to Vietnam to teach or do scientific research, contributing to national development.”

In recent years, OVs have contributed greatly to national socio-economic development, with annual remittances reaching 10 billion USD.
