Vietnam affirms UN’s leading role in preventing and resolving conflicts

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, affirmed the UN’s leading role in preventing and resolving conflicts through peaceful means and in helping countries deal with the aftermath of conflicts.

At a Security Council discussion on Wednesday of mediation and conflict resolution, countries expressed their support for the UN’s role in resolving conflicts based on Chapter VI of the UN Charter, applauded the UN’s mediation role, and affirmed the importance of women’s participation in mediation, elections, and peace efforts.

Ambassador Quy said it is necessary to effectively use all available diplomacy tools in the UN’s mediation activities. He emphasized the role of the UN Secretary General and called for closer coordination within the UN and between the UN and other organizations in rooting out conflicts.
