Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam aims to reduce poor households nationwide 1% to 1.5% each year and soon fulfill goals set in the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Mr. Phuc said: “This is a difficult task but it is necessary and is a sustainable development goal. The Vietnamese government will continue the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction and new-style rural development. Together with giving priority to resources for development and self-help efforts by the disadvantaged themselves, the program will also require help from private individuals and organizations at home and abroad.”

Prime Minister Phuc used the occasion to call on people across the nation to join hands for the poor. The event was in response to the Month for the Poor from October 17 to November 18.
