Vietnam backs parties’ efforts to promote peace process in Afghanistan

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam supports the efforts of the United Nations, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, countries, regional organizations and other international partners in promoting the peace process in Afghanistan, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN.

Ambassador Quy made the statement at the UN Security Council online meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. The event was chaired by Eva-Maria Liimets, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Estonia and Council President for June.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining what has been achieved in Afghanistan, calling on the relevant parties to soon reach the substantive results in negotiations.

The Ambassador condemned the attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially the infrastructure that is essential for people's life, and called on all parties involved to stop the violence, comply with the international humanitarian law and ensure adequate humanitarian and health access.

He welcomed the efforts of the he UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and its partners in supporting demining and offering mine risk education in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Quy stressed the need to deal with economic, humanitarian, and food security challenges as well as promote women and youth's engagement in all aspects of society in Afghanistan.
