As a tool to assess the level of business integrity implementation of businesses, the index is built around seven elements needed to build and operate an integrity-based business, including culture (commitment from leadership, management, employees, training); code of conduct, control, communication, conduct (employees and gender equality/inclusiveness, community, society, environment and sustainable development); compliance and certification.

Vietnam is one of the few countries to rank up in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, rising 26 places globally (from 113 in 2017 to 87 in 2021).

For Vietnam to continue to attract quality investments, low levels of corruption and increased levels of transparency are crucial. In particular, the behavior of enterprises can be a factor that has a positive or negative impact on the level of corruption in the country.

VCCI Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh said "Business integrity links with corporate roles in corruption prevention. VCCI has cooperated with government inspectorate, local agencies and foreign partners to implement this program in 2008. This index is a step further to guide local businesses towards responsible corporate operations."

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Patrick Haverman pledged the agency’s effort to support VCCI and the business community in building up this index for transparency and better investment environment.
